"Paper Plane" is a seemingly laid-back track that has plenty of bold style changes sprinkled throughout its run time. The song explores the inner thoughts of a confused romantic longing for forgiveness with the help of contrasting elements reminiscent of the plethora of feelings that can arise in such a clueless situation. The listener is encouraged to give in to melancholy through an eerie synth sound which is paired with a groovy bass line leaving enough space for the soft vocals to express the wishes of a hopeless lover. As the song progresses, the simple lo-fi beat leaves enough space for sudden changes in expression that are reminiscent of artists such as Tyler, the Creator. The haunting build-up takes the listener to a darker place that is filled with suspense and wonder, just before ditching the melancholic vocals to a more frustrated tone in combination with a heavy and crowded beat. It is a great depiction of the progressive feelings of a person that is struggling to find out what is the problem at the core of their relationship.
